Episode 88 - Superstars - January 1st

 

This week on 'Superstars':

Sam Houston pinned Rusty Brooks.

"Mean" Gene Okerlund interviewed "Outlaw" Ron Bass about the Royal Rumble Match.

Greg "The Hammer" Valentine (with Jimmy Hart) defeated a Local Talent by submission, with a Figure Four Leglock. After the match, Valentine was attacked by Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake.

There was an advert for the January issue of WWF Magazine.

There was an advert for 'Royal Rumble'.

Big John Studd (with Bobby "The Brain" Heenan) defeated Jerry Allen by submission, with a Bearhug.

There was a vignette introducing "Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase, who used his wealth to bribe a receptionist into letting him see a doctor.

King Kong Bundy (with Bobby "The Brain" Heenan) pinned a Local Talent.

In the 'Event Centre', Sean Mooney discussed 'Royal Rumble', on January 26th, and 'Saturday Night's Main Event', on January 11th. "Mean" Gene Okerlund interviewed WWF Intercontinental Champion, "Macho Man" Randy Savage, about his Title defence against Hercules, at 'Royal Rumble'. WWF Tag Team Champions, The British Bulldogs (Davey Boy Smith & Dynamite Kid), spoke about their Title defence against The Islanders (Haku & Tama), at 'Royal Rumble'. Gene Okerlund interviewed WWF Champion, Hulk Hogan, about his Title defence against "King" Harley Race, at 'SNME'. Announced for 'SNME' were The U.S. Express (Barry Windham & Mike Rotunda) & Sam Houston v Demolition (Ax & Smash) & The Magnificent Muraco, and Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake v Greg "The Hammer" Valentine.

"King" Harley Race (with Bobby "The Brain" Heenan) pinned "The Rebel" Dick Slater.

In 'Piper's Pit', with"Rowdy" Roddy Piper, WWF President, Jack Tunney, presented WWF Champion, Hulk Hogan, with a trophy to commemorate three years as WWF Champion. Andre The Giant emerged to congratulate Hogan.

"Mean" Gene Okerlund interviewed Brutus Beefcake, who declared he is now "The Barber", and challenged Greg "The Hammer" Valentine.

Koko B. Ware pinned Black Bart.

There was an advert for the January issue of WWF Magazine.

There was an advert for 'Royal Rumble'.

Tito Santana pinned Brian Costello.

Hercules (with Bobby "The Brain" Heenan) pinned D.J. Peterson.

In the 'Event Centre', Sean Mooney spoke about 'Royal Rumble', on January 26th, and 'Saturday Night's Main Event', on January 11th. At 'Royal Rumble', WWF Tag Team Champions, The British Bulldogs (Davey Boy Smith & Dynamite Kid), will defend their Titles against The Islanders (Haku & Tama). Race & Bobby "The Brain" Heenan spoke to Gene Okerlund about the match.

The Killer Bees (B. Brian Blair & "Jumpin'" Jim Brunzell) defeated The Shadows, when Blair got the submission with a Sleeper Hold.

Vince McMahon conducted a sit-down interview with WWF Champion, Hulk Hogan. Hogan named Andre The Giant as his biggest influence.

Sean Mooney and "Lord" Alfred Hayes are on commentary.

"The Rebel" Dick Slater pinned Matt Borne.

Demolition (Ax & Smash, with Mr. Fuji) defeated The U.S. Express (Barry Windham & Mike Rotunda), when Ax pinned Rotunda.

"Hacksaw" Jim Duggan pinned Nikolai Volkoff (with Slick).

Mr. Wrestling II pinned Dick Murdoch.

Junkyard Dog pinned "The Natural" Butch Reed (with Slick).

WWF Tag Team Champions, The British Bulldogs (Davey Boy Smith & Dynamite Kid) retained their Titles by beating The Hart Foundation (Bret "Hitman" Hart & Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart), when Smith pinned Hart.

In a Steel Cage Match, "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff pinned "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka.

WWF Champion, Hulk Hogan, & Andre The Giant defeated "Rowdy" Roddy Piper & "Cowboy" Bob Orton, when Hogan pinned Orton.

This week on 'Superstars':

We opened with a recap of Hulk Hogan winning the WWF Championship from The Iron Sheik, in Madison Square Garden, on January 23, 1984. Sheik and WWF Champion, Hulk Hogan, each spoke about their match tonight.

Junkyard Dog pinned The Brooklyn Brawler.

Craig DeGeorge interviewed "Outlaw" Ron  Bass.

The Hart Foundation (Bret "Hitman" Hart & Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart) defeated The Shadows, when Neidhart got the pinfall.

There was advert for 'Royal Rumble'.

"Leaping" Lanny Poffo pinned Jim Merkle.

Ken Patera cut a promo.

The Islanders (Haku & Tama, with Bobby "The Brain" Heenan) defeated The Young Stallions (Paul Roma & Jim Powers), when Powers submitted to Haku's Tongan Death Grip.

In the 'Event Centre', Sean Mooney detailed 'WrestleFest', tomorrow night, at the Superdome, in New Orleans. "Rowdy" Roddy Piper (with "Cowboy" Bob Orton) spoke about their match against WWF Champion, Hulk Hogan, and Andre The Giant. "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff and "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka each spoke about their Cage Match. Ken Resnick interviewed Junkyard Dog about his match against "The Natural" Butch Reed.

WWF Champion, Hulk Hogan, retained his Title when he pinned The Iron Sheik (with Slick).

"Mean" Gene Okerlund interviewed Demolition (Ax & Smash) & Mr. Fuji, who spoke about wanting the WWF Tag Team Titles.

One Man Gang & "The Natural" Butch Reed (with Slick) defeated D.J. Peterson & Jerry Allen, when Gang pinned Peterson.

"Mean" Gene Okerlund interviewed "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan, who spoke about Nikolai Volkoff and The Iron Sheik.

Nikolai Volkoff (with Slick) defeated Pez Whatley by submission with a bear hug.

Koko B. Ware cut a promo.

Greg "The Hammer" Valentine (with Jimmy Hart) defeated Omar Atlas by submission with the Figure Four Leglock. After the match, Brutus Beefcake emerged from the entrance way, and brawled with Valentine.

In the 'Event Centre', Sean Mooney ran down 'WrestleFest' in the Louisiana Superdome. "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff and "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka spoke about their Steel Cage Match. Ken Resnick interviewed WWF Tag Team Champions, The British Bulldogs (Davey Boy Smith & Dynamite Kid), who spoke about their match against The Hart Foundation (Bret "Hitman" Hart & Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart). Mr. Wrestling II spoke about his match against Dick Murdoch. Mooney announced that "The Rebel" Dick Slater will face Matt Borne.

The Killer Bees ("Jumpin'" Jim Brunzell & B. Brian Blair) defeated The Long Riders ("Outlaw" Ron Bass & Black Bart), when Blair pinned Bart.

WWF President, Jack Tunney, announced that at 'WrestleFest', on December 26th, "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka will face "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff, in a steel cage match.

"Hacksaw" Jim Duggan pinned Dusty Wolfe.

There was an advert for 'Royal Rumble'.

"The Natural" Butch Reed (with Slick) pinned Jerry Allen.

"King" Harley Race & Bobby "The Brain" Heenan cut a promo.

Hercules (with Bobby "The Brain" Heenan) defeated Pete Doherty by submission with the Full Nelson.

In the 'Event Centre', Sean Mooney ran down 'WrestleFest', which will take place on Thursday, December 26th, at the Superdome in New Orleans. Junkyard Dog spoke about his match with "The Natural" Butch Reed. Dick Murdoch spoke about his match against Mr. Wrestling II. It was announced that WWF Tag Team Champions, The British Bulldogs (Davey Boy Smith & Dynamite Kid), will defend their Titles against The Hart Foundation (Bret "Hitman" Hart & Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart). The Hart Foundation spoke about the match.

Demolition (Ax & Smash, with Mr. Fuji) defeated The Bushwhackers (Luke & Butch), when Ax forced Butch to submit.

It was announced that on next week's 'Superstars', WWF Champion, Hulk Hogan, will defend his Title against The Iron Sheik. Sheik and Hogan both spoke about the match.

Dick Murdoch pinned Pez Whatley.

Craig DeGeorge interviewed One Man Gang & Slick, who spoke about Gang's count out draw with WWF Champion, Hulk Hogan, this past weekend at The Spectrum in Philadelphia.

"Leaping" Lanny Poffo pinned Brian Costello.

In the 'Event Centre', Sean Mooney detailed 'WrestleFest' at the Superdome in New Orleans, on December 26th. WWF Champion, Hulk Hogan, spoke about his and Andre The Giant's match against "Rowdy" Roddy Piper & "Cowboy" Bob Orton, and he also addressed One Man Gang. "Mean" Gene Okerlund interviewed "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan, ahead of his match against Nikolai Volkoff. It was announced that The U.S. Express (Barry Windham & Mike Rotunda) will face Demolition (Ax & Smash). Demolition spoke about the match.

"Ravishing" Rick Rude (with Bobby "The Brain" Heenan) pinned Omar Atlas.

There was an advert for 'Royal Rumble'.

"Superfly" Jimmy Snuka was set to face Jim Merkle, but as Snuka made his entrance he was attacked by "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff.

The U.S. Express (Barry Windham & Mike Rotunda) defeated The Shadows, when Windham got the submission with the Claw.
